How to Use the Library

Join the Library

 A library card is free if you are a resident of the City of Orillia, a resident of Severn or Oro-Medonte Township, or non-residents who pay taxes to the City of Orillia, Severn Township or Oro-Medonte Township. If you are a resident of the City of Barrie or Town of Midland and have a card from their libraries, you are also eligible to obtain a free library card. If you are not eligible for a free library card, a household membership can be purchased at the following rates: $125 for one year, $67 for six months, and $15 for one month.

Adults and students in Grade 9 or above must provide proof of identification and proof of address to obtain a library card.

Your Library card must be shown each time you want to borrow material.

Please take care of your library card. You are responsible for any items borrowed on it and for any charges that may result from late, lost or damaged materials. Changes in personal information, such as address, telephone number or email address should be reported immediately.

Lost Card      

If you lose your library card, please notify us immediately as you are responsible for all materials signed out on your card.

There is a $2.00 replacement fee for a lost or damaged card.

 


Search Our Catalogue  

Our catalogue is accessible from the Internet. That means you can check for materials or check on your account status from home, office, school, or anywhere else in the world.

Check Your Account    

You can access your library account through the catalogue, renew your materials, and place holds on items. You will need: 

  • your 14-digit Orillia Public Library card number - all the numbers, no spaces
  • and your PIN number which can be obtained in person at the Library.

 Then click on My Account.

 


Email Notification

The Library offers email notification that items on hold for you are available for pick-up, reminders that your items are due soon, as well as alerts that you have overdue items.

To receive email notices, please provide your email address to  staff at the Check-Out Desk.

 


Using the Library 

Borrowing Items 

 All library items have loan periods and some have borrowing limits. Refer to the chart below to see which guidelines relate to your material.   Please note: those with a one-month membership may borrow a maximum of four items at one time.

Borrowers with lost or long overdue materials will be billed the replacement cost of the item, plus the fine, plus a non refundable $6.00 per item administration fee.

Items returned after a bill is sent will be charged the maximum fine owing plus the Administration fee.

 


Renewing Materials

 

DVD's , eReaders, Fast Track items and Express books may not be renewed. All other materials may be renewed for one additional loan period, unless a hold has been placed on the item. You may renew materials by clicking on " My Account " in our online catalogue or call the Check-Out Desk at (705) 325-2552.

 


Interlibrary Loans  

 

  • We can borrow books for you from other Libraries in Ontario, if we don't have them in our collection.
  • We can borrow microfilm from provincial archives.
  • We cannot borrow current bestsellers, reference material or school textbooks.
