How to Use the Library

Join the Library

A library card is free if you are a resident of the City of Orillia. Beginning March 1, 2016, library cards will also be free for residents of the Township of Oro-Medonte.  Residents of Barrie and Midland are eligible for free Orillia Public Library membership through reciprocal agreements (proof of residence in Barrie or Midland plus a valid Barrie or Midland Public Library card is required). Orillia Public Library members are entitled to the same privilege at Barrie and Midland public libraries.

An agreement also exists with Georgian College and Lakehead University. Upon presentation of a valid Georgian College student or library card and current address identification, an Orillia Public Library card will be issued free of charge. Orillia Public Library members are entitled to the same privilege at the Library Commons at Georgian College.  Lakehead students must obtain a letter indicating proof of enrollment from their Library.  Upon presentation of this letter along with photo and current address notification, an Orillia Public Library card will be issued free of charge.

If you are not eligible for a free library card, a household membership can be purchased at the following rates: $150 for one year, $80 for six months. We offer individual monthly memberships for $15/month per person.

As of May 26, 2014, residents and property owners in the Township of Severn no longer have free memberships at the Orillia Public Library. If these residents wish to purchase a 12 month membership for $150, there is a $75 rebate available.  Please see Library staff at the Checkout Desk for details. (There is no rebate available for a 6 month or 1 month membership.)
Twelve and six month memberships are for all adults (14+) who live in the household.  These memberships include one wallet sized library card and one keytag library card.  We will issue a duplicate wallet card on request. All children in the household (under 14) will be issued their own membership cards at no extra cost.
One month memberships include one wallet card and one keytag. One month memberships do not include separate cards for children.
