Interlibrary Loan - ILL

"What is an ILL" or "What does Interlibrary Loan mean "

The answer in short is that many libraries will loan books and other materials. So, if something is not in the catalogue of the Orillia Public Library it may be possible to borrow it from elsewhere. Be aware that the ILL process can be a lengthy one so do not request materials that are required urgently and we can only borrow what other institutions will lend.

Staff can request...
  • Books,
  • Microfilm
  • Periodical articles etc
  • Some audio-visual materials such as talking books and compact discs
MATERIALS THAT CANNOT BE BORROWED
  • Bestsellers
  • New Books
  • High demand items
  • Reference Materials
  • Local History Materials
  • Complete issues of periodicals

Most public libraries will loan to other public libraries free of charge.

Both the Ontario Archives and the National Archives of Canada participate in the ILL system.

The Ontario Archives catalogue of materials available for ILL can be viewed by clicking on the picture.....
