If you can’t find an item you’re looking for in the library catalogue, you can submit a request to purchase it. We will try and fill your request by either purchasing the title or borrowing it from another library through Interlibrary Loan if possible.

We tend to purchase titles published in the past year that will be of widespread interest to the community or that help diversify our collection. Older, out of print titles and items that don’t meet our selection criteria are requested from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan.

Please do not request future releases by popular authors (e.g. John Grisham, Louise Penny, Nora Roberts) as OPL will already be purchasing these titles for the collection. If we already have books by these popular authors, you can assume that we will order the next ones.

Also, you do not need to submit a suggestion for upcoming blockbuster films to add to our collection as OPL will already be purchasing copies.  Please keep in mind that a film's theatrical release date is different from the DVD release date.  (Most original content from streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime are not available on DVD.)

Before you suggest a title, please search the catalogue to see if it’s already available.

Information for Self Published/Small Press Authors

While Orillia Public Library welcomes submissions from self-published or small press authors, we receive a large number of submissions and purchase these books very selectively. We are most likely to purchase books which are of significant local interest or include unique local content.

The Library does not order directly from websites or pay in advance for material. If you would like to sell your book to the Library, you should be prepared to send an invoice and wait a few weeks for payment or make your book available through a wholesaler.

Due to the volume of submission inquiries we receive, we are unable to contact or meet with authors individually, nor are we able to notify you if your book is not selected.

Please do not send a sample of your book as we do not accept review copies.

If you would like to donate a copy of your work, please contact us through our online Suggestion Box form. Please note, donated books become the property of the Orillia Public Library and will not be returned if we choose not to include the title in our collection.

If you would like to have your title to be considered for purchase and added to the Library's collection, please fill out our Submission Form for Self-Published/Small Press Books.
