Newcomers to Canada

Welcome to Orillia!

Library staff can connect you with service providers who will help your family settle and feel at home in your community. We can recommend programs, services and resources useful to newcomers and we offer library materials in multiple languages. Staff are happy to take you on a tour of the library and to register you for a free library membership card. During your next visit to the library, ask us about the following free services and programs we offer to newcomers.

English Language Learning Programs and Services

Join our English Conversation Circle to practice speaking English, connect with your community and share your settlement experience in a fun and informal setting. This is a free program run by the Welcome Centre Immigrant Services Mobile Unit.  The program is currently being held every second Wednesday from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in the Library's Program Room. Visit the Library Event Calendar for upcoming dates.

Visit www.welcomecentre.ca to learn more about all of the services offered by the Welcome Centre, or call them at 1-877-761-1155.

Mango is an online language learning database that teaches practical conversation and cultural awareness for the world's most popular languages. This database is free and easy to use, all you need is internet access and your Library card.

Visit our Mango Languages page to get started. Create an account to track your progress and learn at your own pace.

The Orillia Public Library is pleased to offer a small collection of French materials.  We also have a small collection of Chinese, Spanish and Polish materials available.
